While the game will not be an MMO, it will be multiplayer, allowing family and friends to play together and take down all sorts of high-level creatures using an array of different weapons. So far we have seen Dokebi in all sorts of shapes and sizes: A large, fuzzy, pink anteater, a small bi-pedal white dog, and even a clock-headed creature sporting a blue hoodie. So, let's get into our Cozy Comfy Multiplayer of the week: DokeV About DokeVĭokeV will be an open world action-adventure creature-collecting game where players will befriend the adorable and eccentric Dokebi who gain strength from people’s dreams. So, I took it upon myself to scourge website after website to bring together all the information released so far, and what can be expected as we head into 2023. Sadly, despite the hype and the eager fans who have been waiting in masses for the release of DokeV, information is scarce, hidden in the underbelly of the internet, or sometimes entirely in Korean. According to Nam, the team behind the game plans to implement " many aspects of Korean culture into DokeV." He also confirmed that DokeV will have a variety of gameplay beyond the combat which was shown in the trailer.Even if you don’t know the studio Pearl Abyss, DokeV was a title that was taking the internet by storm with its bright, high-energy trailer filled with cute characters, cutter animations, and a soundtrack that was near impossible not to have on repeat. The inclusion of these folktale creatures will not be the only bit of Korean culture that influences DokeV. Still, the Dokebi themselves have a much more distinct visual style than Pokémon do, and each of the collectable creatures is obtained through a story event. Just as Pokémon trainers travel regions to collect Pokémon and battle other trainers, game designer Changkee Nam explains that, " the story of the game revolves around collecting Dokebi and embarking on various adventures with friends." Players can ride Dokebi across the open world like the rideable Pokémon of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and befriended Dokebi an be used in combat against ones encountered in the environment, reminiscent of Pokémon battles. The creature-collecting aspect of DokeV brings to mind the popular Pokémon series given the way the Dokebi influence the game. Many different varieties of these creatures can be seen throughout the trailer, with some types shown having the features of bears, foxes, and ducks. In the DokeV gameplay overview provided by GamesRadar, Sangyoung Kim, one of DokeV's producers, explains how the creatures that appear in the game, called Dokebi, " are spirit-like entities that appear in Korean folktales." He goes on to explain that these Dokebi live alongside people and strive to make their dreams come true. There are also a number of details present in DokeV, aside from just its environments, that are uniquely Korean. It seems that the game will have a number of locations, with the trailer mostly showing off sprawling cities and beach areas filled with people. Though the game has been in development since 2019, the newest trailer for DokeV showed off the environments and combat the game will offer.
